It has been about six weeks since the last CKC outing and we were looking forward to this one. R and I would paddle Big Red in case I flagged (being the last one to come down with the dreaded lurgie). An early departure was arranged - to avoid the wind and to try and avoid low tide. We picked up S&V's boats and loaded our own on Thursday evening in anticipation of our 6.00am departure. We collected S&V and R enroute and arrived at our launch site on the Tuross River up the Bumbo Lake Road around 7.30am.
After unloading and packing the boats we took to the water at 7.50am
After paddling up the Tuross River for several hundred metres we turned right. Bridge at the entrance to Bumbo Creek
Heading up a channel to the lake
Which way?

Pelicans in Bumbo Lake
Again, which way? The lake is very shallow in parts and with the tide well on the way out it was decided that paddling the whole lake was not feasible - no-one was keen on the possibility of dragging out boats through mud. So after a bit of discussion we opted to cross the lake and paddle up a creek that enters Bumbo to the right of R's head.
S - up the creek
End of the line
After recrossing and exiting the lake we paddled up Bumbo Creek until we found somewhere to have lunch - at 10.00am!
Back on the water just before 11.00am and heading downstream
Arrived back at our launch site at 11.30am to find many more people and boats about.
After packing up the boats and gear we drove back to the highway and while L was waiting to turn right the girls decided we should turn left and go to the Pickled Octopus at Tuross Head for a coffee.
Arriving at the Pickled Octopus about 12.30 we asked if we could just have a coffee. No problems, the waiter said as he seated us and cunningly put menus on the table. Talk about a mouth watering menu, Thai to boot. Needless to say we succumbed and just a quick coffee turned into a long and yummy 2nd lunch. A lovely end to our first paddle in 6 weeks.
Trip Notes:
Put in/Take Out: Tuross River, up Bumbo Lake Road

Saturday 16 September 2017 Little Cuttagee
An under-represented CKC - just L and me had a quick early morning paddle this day. We launched from the neighbours at 7.20am
Little Cuttagee looking inviting
Cormorants taking flight
It was nice to be back on the water
We headed up to the bridge and then down Cuttagee
When we reached the main part of Cuttagee the wind hit in force and it was a hard paddle into the wind back into Little Cuttagee
Our paddle lasted only a little over an hour which was enough for L, recuperating as he was from the winter lurgie
