Wednesday 3 January 2018 Cuttagee Creek

A huge hailstorm, as in huge hail, some bigger than golf balls and 33mls of rain, hit us yesterday afternoon

and I thought today would be a good time to see if we could get further up Cuttagee Creek.
So after a quick ring around this morning, it was arranged that the CKC would meet at the next door neighbours at 9.00 and A would join us as we paddled past his place. Taking too the water at 9.20am, with L leading the way for once.

Perfect conditions for a paddle with L back in Dani after a long absence

Happy New Year's all round as A joins us

With the slappers retired the girls set a steady pace and we paddled down the lake and into the creek without a stop. Which way - up the creek or a diversion into Back Lagoon?

Back Lagoon it was

Finding no where to land before we hit the end of the lagoon we turned around

And retraced our path

And turned up the creek

Past the Browne's ford we stopped for a stretch and snack at this now much reduced beach

After about 15mins we took to the water once more and continued upstream

Dissapointed that the storm hadn't increased the level of the water in the creek, we grounded at the same spot as last time. The intrepid amongst us dragged our boats over the first pebble bar only to run out of water 50 metres or so further on.

We left the boats and walked up to the next pool,

(where I tried a bit of underwater photography)

it wasn't very long. Looking back to where we had left the boats

So we headed back downstream

Maiden Hair Fern

To find that we were on our own, G & A having deserted us and headed home

As soon as we left the protection of the creek the wind hit us head on

Reflections as I take shelter out of the wind before making the turn to head across the top of the lake to the channel

Heading down the channel

L beaching, or in this case mudding at 1.36pm

12.5kms
4hours 10mins
