Sunday 4 March 2018 Toorloo Arm, Lake Tyres

After an hour long drive from Paynesville we reached the boat ramp at the end of Mill Point Road to find an overflowing carpark and lots of people milling around the top of the boat ramp carrying white gar bags. KT twigged, it was Clean Up Australia Day.

We started our paddle just after 10.00am keeping a careful eye on the beginner waterboarder (or whatever you call it)

Headed for the point in front of L

Rounding the point

We cross a wide part of the arm

Back into more sheltered water

Hmm, after a check of the map, it's a right turn ahead

Around some mud flats

Just beyond the mudflats we pulled over for a quick break at 11.05am. (looking upstream)

Where there were some convenient stairs to sit on

Underway once more at 11.40am

Taking a left turn in front of these unfazed pelicans

People popped up in the most unexpected places. L&I were unused to sharing a water way with so many people.

Our turn around point at Burnt Bridge and yet more people, on both sides of the river

We stopped at 12.50pm for lunch at the last spot sheltered from the breeze that had sprung up. Just before we stopped we had to share the waterway with a jet skier zooming around until he got pleasingly bogged in the shallows in the middle of the water.

 KT receiving some paddling tips

Taking to the water again at 1.33pm. GT just nimbly climbs into his boat (jealous)

We returned to our starting point at 2.15pm.

Lake Tyres is definitely worth a revisit with plenty more paddling opportunities.
