Friday 18 May 2018 Murrah River

Its quite tricky to get the timing right for this paddle. Too early and a lot of boat dragging is required at the start and too late requires a lot of boat dragging at the end. High tide at the entrance was 10.44am so a start time of 11.00am was decided upon which ended up working for all of us except for G who had to drag his boat for the last 50metres at the end of our paddle. However, being a low high tide meant that there were lots of shallow sections, both on the way down and back up, that we had to pick our way across.

The CKC was out in force today plus the addition of a guest paddler, D'd, who delayed her trip back home to join us for the day.

Even tho' L, D'd and I arrived late and perforce S&V - too much talking over breakfast -  with the help of G&R and A&K, who were all kitted up and ready to launch,we managed to get on the water at the designated time.

The only spot with water deep enough to launch

Members of the CKC waiting for the stragglers to launch

R, seaching for a route through the shallows

Having rounded the second bend, we were into deeper water

The combination of a lovely day, beautiful surrounds and a short distance to cover made for lots of chatter and a lazy paddle.

Until we came to the inlet proper, where once again we hit shallow, but beautiful water

Eventually we all picked our paths

Round to the entrance.

Looking across to the Cox house

We snaked our way back from the entrance into slightly deeper water and headed back across the inlet

To have lunch at 12.30

With Mumbulla Mountain featuring as our backdrop

Taking to the water again at 1.15pm

We headed back up river and turned left into the lagoon and paddled around the big island back to the river.  It would be good to do this paddle again on a king high tide so we could venture to the limits of the lagoon. Nearly back to the river

Paddling back against the now outgoing tide, we had to pick our way over more shallows. Rounding the 2nd last bend

The end of the paddle in sight, beside the Murrah Bridge

We finished our paddle at 2.20pm

Getting the boats up from the river and ready to load

A most enjoyable paddle on a perfect autumn day :)
