Tuesday 1 May 2018 Three Mile Dam, Mt Selwyn

Tuesday morning saw us heading off up into the mountains to camp for a few nights at Three Mile Dam to get in a couple of paddles and to celebrate L's birthday. S&V set off bright and early followed shortly thereafter by G&R towing a monster camper trailer. L&I, in the slowest vehicle and towing the trailer were the last to leave.

We arrived to find S&V with tent erected and G&R, tight lipped, still trying to erect the giant jigsaw puzzle that eventually turned into a large and roomy camper with all the bells and whistles, but sadly with a hideously hard bed. It was then L's and my turn to be tight lipped until (what turned out to be an entirely unsuitable, more of that later) tent site was compromised upon.

Once our various home away from homes were erected and beds made etc, a calming cup of tea was imbibed and S&V and R&L decided a quick paddle in the evening light should be undertaken. I elected to try some spinning, while G tweaked the camper trailer.

Whilst the paddlers had a lovely time doing a circuit of the dam

I didn't even get a nibble :(

We were all surprised and a little miffed at the number of people camping in this lovely spot midweek - and more continued to arrive throughout the evening and night. After a humungous dinner, cooked by L in the camper kitchen we sat around the fire and non too quietly froze, softies from the coast that we are - Three Mile Dam being at an elevation of approx 1500m. The last of us managed to hang out till 9.30pm before hitting our hopefully cozy sacks.
