Tuesday 12/5 Braunston to Lower Shuckburgh

However very shortly there were nicer views
A better view
For the first four miles L. Kept reminding me how many locks and how many days to Oxford and then we have to turn around and come back again. He just wants to rush off and do the Avon and Severn Rivers, whereas , after our experience on the Soar , I'm happy to give rivers a miss for awhile.
Lovely canal
Another view

Below, if you can see it, is an example of some old ridge and furrow. Can you see the indentations on top of the hill?
Remnants of medieval ridge and furrow farming remain evident in pastures around here. These patterns, zigzagging across the paddocks were preserved because this former arable land - where each ridge represented the individual strip of a peasant farmer - was given over to pasture immediately after the area was enclosed by hawthorn hedges and the peasants sent packing by the land owners some time between the 15th and 17th centuries.
And lastly our mooring for the night

Tuesday 12/5 Welton Haven to Lower Shuckburgh
