Tuesday 26/5 Radford Bottom Lock, GUC to Saltisford Canal Centre Pt.1

We had an easy run from last nights mooring into the Saltisford Arm, passing through some pretty countryside

Past a swan family

Before going through Royal Leamington Spa where we stopped to stretch our legs and do a quick shop. Then it was over the aqueduct that takes the GUC over the River Avon

Coming into Warwick past a couple of boatyards

And past, this little boat. I think Mumble is smaller than yesterday's Piglet. The dog on the jetty is one of the very few 'mongrels' we have seen.  I have put the noses of a few dog owners out of joint by saying "oh what a lovely bitzer", only to be told in a huffy voice that the dog in question is a pure bred something or other, usually some sort of terrier.

Shared our only two locks of the day with an Aussie couple, from Melbourne.  The wife was driving and she zoomed into the lock beside Lawrence at a great rate and without touching Aqua Life. I was very impressed. I was even more impressed when hubby, who was working the lock with me told me that this was day 2 of their hire and his wife had had no previous experience. But he was afraid she wasn't enjoying it. The day before their hire they had just finished a 30 day bus tour and yesterday afternoon they had picked up the boat in Napton and had moored somewhere beyond us. He hoping to get down to Tewkesbury via Stratford upon Avon and back to Napton in a week! We have allowed 5 1/2 days just to get to Stratford upon Avon from here. No wonder she is not to happy. They were planning to do the castle this morning, if so they must have done it at a run. Such a pity, cos she is obviously a natural when it comes to handling a narrow boat.

We moored up in the Saltisford Arm, which is run by the Saltisford Canal Trust. We are moored right outside the little shop and office and have power and water on hand. The 1st night is free, a second night is UK5.50 - how good is that. We have access to gardens and lawns with picnic tables, a laundry, toilet and rubbish disposal and we are 10mins walk from the town centre (and that is Lawrence and Margy walking time) - we are in the boater heaven!

One of the garden areas on the arm, looked after by Trust volunteers. I took these pics when we got back this evening. We are moored up just beside the building.
