An old mill
Burnley Wharf complex
E still got some pleasant prospects as we left Burnley behind
Next up was the Gannow Tunnel, a tiddler at 559 yards
In the tunnel
Occasionally we get reminded that there is a modern world out there - going under the M65
We stopped at Hapton at some unlovely moorings for a quick lunch where the scent of warming baked beans drew some local beggars
Pendle Hill which we have been skirting for the past couple of days
At sb 114, after Clayton Le Moors we had a little incident. School was out and as Mike and I were swinging open the sb a bunch of rascally (Mike's description, not mine!) leapt on for the ride. All would have been okay if the smart arse chubby one of the group hadn't decided to climb over the railing. Mike and my protestations were ignored and he ended up hanging off the railing of the bridge and the fat little bugger (my words) couldn't hold his own weight and fell into the canal just as Aqualife Life was coming through. Lawrence reacted instantly and put AL into neutral - wouldn't have gone down well with the onlookers, mincing a local lad). Mike and I couldn't see a thing as we were busy trying to hold the bridge 3/4 open, not daring to move it, cos we didn't know where chubby was in the canal and we didn't want to mince his head. Lawrence let chubby flounder for awhile and then flung him the life buoy. Chubby then managed to stand up and wade to the side and haul himself onto the bridge foundations. He thought it a great joke until he remembered his mobile phone in his pocket, he promptly turned very glum. So as he squelched off up the towpath, in his sodden and beslimed school uniform, I had the last laugh 😈
Tim was so concerned he managed to take a photo before Chubby had to let go
As you could understand, Mike and I were very relieved to see no one hanging around at the next swing bridge.
An unusual craft for a canal
Lovely old mill in Church
