L and I joined them on the water just as dawn was breaking. As we paddled up the straight between Little Cuttagee and the main lake the water was glassy, broken only by jumping fish and masses of prawns skipping across the surface of the water lit up by the sun just rising over the horizon.
We paddled down the main lake with the sun at our backs, disturbing the swans and cormorants. On the way up the creek proper, just after the second bend we spotted this torpid water dragon waiting for the sun to energize it before starting the days activities.
We proceeded up the creek until it became too shallow to paddle further and after a snack break we paddled back to the bridge, enjoying the early morning sun and watching the fish swim away from our boats, after which we paddled back to our respective starting points. It was a beautiful early morning paddle and very good for the soul.
