Thursday 29 June 2017 Cuttagee Lake & Creek

The meet point was down at S&V's boat shed on Little Cuttagee. I was 5 minutes late as I was on my own, L recovering from an operation on 19 June, and loading the boat (shoving it into the back of the landcruiser as far as it would go) etc took longer than I thought (L is so quick and efficient).

It was S, V and me for this paddle, with L out of action, G&R away, seeking out warmer climes, K working and too early and cold for A.  We were on the water just before 9.00am. It was a bit chill, but the sun was out and the water superb.

At the junction, left to Aafke's Lagoon - right to the creek

Heading toward Aafke's Lagoon

At the junction of the creek and Back Lagoon, looking up the lagoon

Back on the creek and round the corner past Browne's ford. Further than we've ever got before.

Nearly as far as we could go

At the upper end of this beach was a large gravel barrier and beyond this the creek broke up into pools. We had reached the western boundary of what was Rob and Tania's place.

After some refreshment we put back in and headed back down stream.

V&S disappearing around the corner

The creek was lovely except for a manky stretch immediately after Browne's ford. We encountered the same sort of thing on the Brogo River up from Brogo Dam. I think it is where the lake water and running creek/river water meet.  Lovely as the creek was, it was good to get out onto the lake again and for the sun to warm our old bones as we slowly paddled home. Disappointingly, we didn't see any fish, other than a large school of fingerlings up the creek and two small stingrays up toward the bridge; unlike our dawn paddle when the fish and prawns put on a continuous display.

We met up with A, near the pole in Little Cuttagee, nearly at the end of our paddle and at the start of his. We rafted up for a chat in the sun and told him what he'd missed! Although he would have had a hard time trying to get his ocean kayak where we went. People sneer at our sit on's but we can get them all sorts of tricky places because of their shallow draft.
