Thursday 13 April Bega River

For this paddle nearly all the CKC - Cuttagee (Old Farts) Kayak Club as we have now called ourselves were present; only A was missing. As a one way trip was on the agenda we met at the Mogareeka boat ramp to unload the kayaks before doing a car shuffle to the boat ramp at the head of Blackfellas Lagoon.

Once again this paddle had been planned by L to take advantage of the incoming tide and when the drivers returned we embarked with the tide helping us on our way. We made our way up the river with a side trip part way up the entrance to Chinnock Lagoon before returning to the river and continuing our paddle upstream, coping with the occasional wash from a passing speed boat.

We stopped for morning tea about 11.00am on a sandy beach on the big bend.

A hot cuppa and some home made snacks were duly appreciated

On our way again we made another side trip, this time into Zecks Lagoon.  Entering it via a narrow channel with tall reeds pressing in on each side simultaneously made R and me imagine we were Bogie and Kate aboard the African and Queen making our way into Lake Whatever with L in Big Red as our target.

In Zecks Lagoon. G who teamed up with K in her double Hobie; K pedalling and G paddling, with R behind in her new boat.

After exiting Zecks Lagoon we made our various ways across/around the sand bar in the middle of the Bega River so we could enter Blackfellas Lagoon and paddle to the head of the lagoon to our egress point. Unfortunately G fell at the end of the trip resulting in badly strained muscles in his back and has been out of kayaking action ever since.

After retrieving cars and loading boats we retired to the Tathra beachside cafe for a well deserved late and long lunch.
