Nelson's Lagoon is open to the sea so our paddle was planned to coincide with the late afternoon high tide. G&R joined us for this paddle and our original plan had been to put in near the mouth of the lagoon and paddle upstream with the help of the incoming tide and at the end of the paddle in the warm, blue and sandy bottomed water, practice falling in and figuring out how, and if at all possible to get back into our kayaks without having to swim to shore pushing our kayaks before us.
However the car park was full which meant lots of people, for whom none of us had the least desire to provide a free afternoons entertainment so we backtracked and went down a very rough track that led to the creek feeding into the head of the lagoon. So instead of a nice sandy entry we had to haul the kayaks down a drop and into mud up to mid calf and then had to paddle against the tide.
Once out of the creek and into the lagoon the paddling got easier and the surrounds far more attractive.

Shortly after this pic was taken we reached an impasse - I was paddling flat out in reverse whilst Lawrence was trying to power us forward. Thankfully the incoming tide was in my favour and L, once again, failed to get me 'out to sea'. Double kayaks are not dubbed divorce boats for nothing!
With the incoming tide we had an easy paddle back to our start point and the extra water in the creek
made the last part of our paddle an attractive one.
Trip Notes:
Put in/Take out: down a cruddy track?
