But that's not all Geoff. This was parked outside the pub, still radiating heat. A Fodens single cylinder traction engine
According to the owner, all these engines were made for export and this one spent it's working life in Tasmania. It was brought back to the UK 8 years ago and was completely rebuilt. Because they were all for export, this is the only Fodens single cylinder engine in the UK. It took the owner 21/2 hours to drive it here from Stockport. Lawrence asked what was the traffic like and the chap replied "I don't know, it was all behind me"!
After lunch at the Navigation Inn we walked over the hill (v. steep) to Whaley Bridge, a village at the other termini (sp?) of the Upper P.F.C.
The lame up which we were staggering
At the top of the lane
Walking down into Whaley Bridge passed barns converted into des res's
Then we crossed a style and tramped through the farmers field
At the end of the field another style led into a narrow stone walled path
We then walked back along the canal to Bugsworth Basin, with a quick stop at the conveniently located, canalside Tesco.
When we got back another steamer thing had arrived, this time from Macclesfield, towing a wooden gypsie type caravan
And another,my with Clayton Shuttlewoorth something on its front
And yet another, things had been happening in ourmabsence!
It turns out there is a small steam rally happening outside the pub this weekend and these were the first arrivals.
5 miles, 3 swing bridges in 3 hrs
