And looking the other way this morning
And this is why I was in the pooh last night
We finally left our mooring at 9.25 and soon cruised past these rather weird permanent moorings decorations
Still, there were some nice views to be had. In this one the ditch in the paddock is the River Trent which will be running beside us for the whole day
You may be able to make out Weston Hall
Other views along the way
At our first lock of the day we had a 20 minute wait as some CRT fellas were in the lock repairing and cleaning it. While we waited for them to finish another 3 boats pulled in behind us, all private and they humphed and muttered amongst themselves about the failings of CRT. A lot of owners moan about CRT. I don't think any of them have ever done the math re the budget CRT has to work with, divided by the 2,000+miles of canals they are responsible for. I think they do a bloody marvellous job. Anyway, here are the boys in blue
Next stop was the farm shop just before Great Haywood Junction. I was just going for milk, bread and some snags, however will all three of the menfolk coming along and popping things into the basket we walked out with a lot more than originally intended. After we got back to the boat, Lawrence then Mike showered while Tim and I made sandwiches, with the intention of picnicking in the grounds of Shugborough Hall after filling up with water.
Upon moving to the moorings for the waterpoint we found both taps in use and had to wait and wait and wait. It was nearly and hour before a tap became free. Then Lawrence and the man from the next boat spent 15 mins trying to fix our squirting tap fitting, til L finally cracked it and cut the fitting off altogether and forced the hose onto the alternate tail fitting - which worked like a charm, he should have done it weeks ago! By this time we gave up the idea of a picnic and ate our sandwiches whilst our boat took ages to fill.
