And at the end of Wheelock Heartbreak Hill and its locks started, so hardly any pics from me as I was mostly walking and working locks.
Typical scenery along our route
In one of the locks near Malkins Bank
Leaving lock 57 at Hassall Green
At 11.30, after completing 12 locks we stopped for a 1/2 hour for a cup of tea, some chocolate and sweet biscuits. Our view during morning tea. The hill in the middle background is Mow Cop which we shall get closer to at the end of the day.
On a sugar high and buzzing like the energiser bunny I was ready to tackle more locks. Garden ornamentation galore at Rhode Heath
And that was only half of it!
Waiting for the lock to finish filling
Around Church Lawton the locks came thick and fast
We had only three locks in our favour today and this was one of them. A boat coming down and AL passed each other in the pound between the two locks. It was the only boat we passed on the whole of Heartbreak Hill.
This is not a bridge. It is an aqueduct and carries the Macclesfield Canal across the Trent & Mersey Canal. Only two more locks to go and we will be making the turn onto the 'Mac'.
Lock 41, the last of the 26 that make up Heartbreak Hill - a cause for celebration. To the right is the bridge over the entrance to the Macclesfield Canal
