Wednesday 5/10 Bridge 47 to Bollington Aqueduct

This was my view when I sat up in bed this morning and looked out the window

Lawrence was sound asleep so I left him to it until 9.00am when II rec'd a text msg from Justin, the owner of Aqua Narrowboats, to say he and Lynden were coming to service the boat and they would be with us about 11.00am and if we weren't could we get ourselves somewhere accessible by car. With Lawrence still sound asleep and AL looking like a tip I had a bit of a panic, woke Lawrence - a slow and grumpy response, had a fag (speaking of fags, I'm a bit desolate, my peppermint tin ashtray blew away in the wind last night - the same tin I used last year) and worked out a plan of attack.

We got underway at 9.30 and I started stripping the beds, gathering up the towels etc and cleaning.
Lawrence did call me to appreciate the view

A view to the Pennines

We travelled for an hour until we found a road bridge (44) that a) had access to the towpath, b) somewhere to park the car, c) boat mooring close to it and d) had some identifiable nearby feature,eg pub, that Jason and Lynden could pin point with GPS. By 11.30 they'd come amd gone- Aqualife greased and oiled changed and new linen for us, lovely.

We then set about turning AL into a tip again. Lawrence had breaky while I showered and washed my hair before setting off for Macclesfield, a former silk weaving town.

A crossover bridge at Gurnett

Looking back at the curved path on the right side of the bridge

Stone walled cutting after the crossover bridge

The canal system is really a fantastic feat of engineering. After leaving Gurnett we cruised along a wooded embankment

There were a few more boats on the move today

Another squirty tap water fill

After the waterfill we moved on to the visitor moorings. After lunch at the Puss in Boots pub and a quick food shop we headed on  to greener pastures.

Popping out from under the last bridge in Macclesfield we found we were in the countryside again
