Tuesday 4/10 Bridge 86 to Bridge 47, Macclesfield Canal Pt.1

Left our mooring at 9.30 still weary from yesterday's effort. But we are enjoying the Macclesfield. With scenery like this, who wouldn't?

Cruising over an aqueduct; the view to the east

And to the west

One of the youngest canals of the system, the Mac was completed in 1831 and carried commercial traffic until the 1960s. It runs general on a north south axis and employs cuttings, embankments and aqueducts to reduce the need for locks - for which I am very grateful to Thomas Telford, the engineer.

Once again we saw only the occasional boat on the move.

The hill in the background is called The Cloud, we have been skirting around it for most of the morning.

Then suddenly we caught a glimpse of the Pennines

Farmer trimming his hedgerows

How's this for a garden, or in this case, a farm gnome

The Cloud again

And again, further on

Round a bend and another glimpse of the Pennines
